What choke tube do most people shoot for pheasants? Right now im shooting I/C and woundering if I should shoot something else this late in the year?

I shoot mod. for everything in my Remington 870. One of the reasons I don't change it is because it is what I'm used to shooting so I automatically comensate for the different distance shots. It's all about getting good with the choke you are using and knowing its limits. But I would think that this late in the season Mod. would be a good choice.

I shoot either modified or full. If I/C is working for you, stick with it. If you are not reaching birds/they are getting up a bit further, switch tubes and maybe even shot size. I used to start the season with #6's and then switch to #4's later in the season.

I agree, I/C is OK early but late season is definately a Mod choke. I like Mod most all the time as well. I pretty much have switched to straight steel now with so many of the Public Lands now requiring that regulation. With that being said, I definately drop down a size or two. Mostly shoot 4's early and 3's later. Good hunting!

Can't go wrong with mod, but IC is a good choice as well....those would be the two best options.

Thanks, Im going out in the morning and I think im going to put the mod choke in. I have been having trouble putting birds down with the IC so I think a change is due.

Well, I put the Mod. choke in and used four shot today. The first bird I shot I literally shot the head off of it and skinned the dang thing. I guess I should have waited a bit to shoot. The second one was a longer shot and went down just fine. I will just have to wait if a bird gets up too close.

Glad to hear that it worked out with the Mod choke. I use a Mod choke all season. Like you said sometimes you need to wait a few seconds before squeezing the trigger. Ask Lip as he has seen me blast one just a little to close.

Re choke to use. Too many variables to throw out quick answers. Shot size? High Velocity? Copper/nickel coated? Flushing dog or pointer? I strongly reccomend patterning on paper at various distances with various chokes and loads. Shot is less effective later in colder weather, shots are longer, birds are stronger, thus heavier shot and tighter choke. I always use copper/nickel coated hi-velocity shot. 6's early, 4's later or 5's all season. Tight birds on SD opener I often use a 28 ga. Now I'm using 12 ga IM or Full.
