I've been kicking around the idea of getting rid of the AK for an AR style gun instead. The AK is a lot of fun to shoot, but I'd like something that is more accurate than the AK(more than just hitting the target at 100yds). I've looked at the DPMS Panther Classic in 5.56x45. What are your guys thoughts on the DPMS. Are they reliable, accurate, etc? Is there a different gun that would be in a similar price range that would be equal or better than the DPMS?

Another gun that I am looking at is the Panther Lite 16 or 20. If anyone has any input on those two, or have a preference over a 16 or 20 inch barrel, let me know.
I don't know a lot about the AR style guns , and don't want to buy something that is a piece of crap, but don't really want to spend a ton of money on either for something that is going to be used pretty much exclusively on the range.

Skippy..as far as DPMS guns go I dont think you will find much better...I have shot thousands and thousands of rounds thru their .223 m-4 and all I've replaced were the gas rings..Not only do I feel they have a great product but their customer service is great..The gun gets pounded on hard and keeps shootin no problem...I will say after shootin a lot of rounds thru it, it some times needs some oil dropped in it to eject the round properly...but thats after 500 plus rounds in a day...good luck...Jay

DPMS makes a very fine product your cant go wrong with any of DPMS's products.
Plus they are local!, right here in good ol MN!
Spend a little of that IA $ here.

I have been shooting a Panther Bull 16 in 223, it has been a great gun so far will shoot in 1" at 100 yards so accuracy is pretty good. The only thing I would recommend is to do or have someone do a trigger job on them. The factory triggers are pretty stout and have alot of creep to them. Put in a Timney trigger and it takes care of that problem, makes for a nice crisp trigger on a good shooting rifle,

Not putting the DPMS down at all but has anyone looked at the new remington r 15. Just curious. Looks like its a sweet gun. The only thing i dont like is that it somes in one camo pattern. Hopefully they will get some sort of snow camo laid on it then i will be very interested.

I have had a DPMS and a Rock River both in .223. I really liked both of them but I think that the DPMS had a tighter fit between the upper and lower recievers. It may have just been my experience but I think that the price difference was minimal between the two. I have since sold them both and am now looking at the new Stag Arms for a knockaround toy. Skippy if you ever get over by Cedar Rapids go to Ceader Valley Outfitters. Talk with the guys there and they can most likely set you up with a rig that they think will work best for you. They are very friendly and have no problem helping you if you ever have any problems with you gun.
