New Puppy

We got a new pup. 1/2 white lab, 1/2 Visla, on purpose. Myka is quite the little lady!!

I lost the dog of my life a few years ago in a farm accident and I have not had one since. But my son, Ryder, is 2 now and I know that he needs to have a dog to grow up with, so I bit the bullet and decided to try life with a dog again.

When I had other dogs, I was younger and had a lot less stuff going on in my life. I was always outside on the farm and the dog spent all day with me. Now that the free time has dwindled to almost nothing, I am trying to figure out how to train all over again. When I was around all the time, potty training was simple, now that I am gone all day, where do I start?

It is tough getting back into a life with a dog again and I would appreciate any help that I can get from you!! I will post some pics tomorrow. THANKS!!

A pup is going to need breaks every couple of hours. If someone will be around the dog while you are gone, I would recommend crate training. Place the dog in the crate and every couple of hours remove it and take it outside right away. As the pup does it business repeat the command "empty" or any other word you choose. Soon the dog will be "going" on your command. When it is done that is the time for some play.
Everything else will be all fun and games for awhile. get the pup out to see as much of the world as possible. Ride in trucks, seeing all kinds of people and other dogs. At around 16 weeks you will want to find at least 45 minutes a day to work and train your pup.have fun and keep us posted on how things are going.

Here she is and we also think that the mix should be a good one. I grew up with a lab/visla and she was awesome!!!

Interesting. Which parent was which? If you could get the cold weather coat of a Lab onto that Visla

Dad is a registered 120lb white Lab and mom is a registered 50-60lb light grey Visla. Myka shows most of the traits of here dad, with the long ears and slightly longer nose of here mom.

Are you sure the mom is a Viszla, and not a Weimerander? Vizlsas are brown, Weimers are Grey? Just wondering since I run a Viszla and love it! Here he is in action!

You got a great looking pup there! Does it point or is it a flusher?

My first hunting dog (I got her in 8th grade-1973) was half Lab and half Irish Setter! She was a long legged flusher and turned into quite the pheasant and duck dog. Too fast in the grouse woods, but what a great dog she was for roosters and ducks. Heavier the cover the better..

Your pup should be a hellofa hunter!
