My dog got loose sometime Thursday evening. I realized he was gone Friday. Well after a full day and a half of looking for him, he is safe and sound in the Pound. Sad and happy all at the same time. Bad news I can't get him back until Monday, good news is that he is not in a ditch somewhere. He ended up being 4 blocks from my house laying in the boulevard. A guy called the city, (his tags were on a different collar) so he gets to spend three nights in the pound. Anyone now how much this is going to cost me??? Not that it really matters, I am just glad he's alive.

At least you know where he is! Here in La Crosse, if your dog gets picked up on the weekend, if you call the Humane Society you get their answering service. They are not allowed to even tell you if there has been a call for your area let alone for a dog that may match the one you are looking for. We had a small house dog several years ago that would sometimes slip out while people went in or out of the door. Because she was small, and very mellow it was sometimes a while before we knew she was not in the house. One time during the winter she got out and we looked for hours to no avail. We called the humane society and even after we explained that she was an inside dog that would most likely not survive the night in the winter cold, they would not tell us if they had her or not! "Just call the office on Monday" is what we were told! Well, we continued to look and call her for the next 2 days and nights only to find out that they had indeed picked her up about 20 minutes after we figure she got out. When I asked why they felt the need to put us through an entire weekend of fear and wondering (the kids were crying, the wife was frantic and I was exhausted from being up looking for her for 2 days straight), I was told it was an "administrative policy"! If we didn't want to go through it again, we should do a better job of restraining our dog! Needless to say, I am not a big fan of the Humane Society of La Crosse. I love what they do as far as the rescues and such, but not how they conduct business with the public that supports them!

Glad your boy is OK!

OK, I am off my soap box now!

$158.00 grand total. He is happy to be back home, I am glad he's home too. Here is a question for you guys....how much does your city charge to license your dog??? Byron is $10.00 per year. I had him licensed when I brought him home as a puppy, but didn't know it was an annual thing. So $50.00 of the fine was for him being unlicensed.
