Ok so this past month or so Ive really come to grips on how bad I'm addicted to hunting Whitetails! Here's a few things ive been doing the past month that signal to myself I have the fever:
1.) TV never leaves the outdoors channel! Episodes I cannot watched are TIVO'ed and watched at a later time. Even re-runs get the nod this time of year!
2.)Making plans around being able to drive around fields each morning looking for deer.
3.) Shooting the bow 4-5 times per week.
4.) Making the trip to the local outdoors shop a couple times a week just to look around and make sure nothing new & exciting hasn't shown up!
5.)Recurring dreams of of monster bucks at least 2-3 times a week!
6.) Scanning, than Re-Scanning each piece of property I plan to hunt on Google Earth, Terra Server, etc.
7.) Spending at least an hour each day on IDO!
Lets hear from some others..whats your addiction consist of???

All the above plus 3-4 hours on IDO, not to mention sleepless nights or 2-3 hours a night.
It could be 10 days for me in ND, but who is counting.

Constanting trying to remember what I know about bowhunting the big guys.
Mentally revisiting the layouts of the timbers I hunt.
Go and physically check those spots for sign.
Looking at aerial maps of the areas I want to hunt and trying to decide when I can go ask permission on any new timber Id like to hunt.
Thinking about when I can get some fresh roadkill tarsal glands, if I can find the time.
Got to remember to go talk to Jamie who raises deer for fresh scent when his does come in heat.
Theres more and trying to remember all of the above.

Live, eat, sleep whitetails from mid Sept. until end of dec. I managed to keep my days down to 9 days missed over last season. Plus I ATE MY TAG TOO! Nothing better but hunting season turns me insane! Always in a hurry to get things done or get home early enough to get out in the woods.

Overall i have the "HUNT SMARTER, NOT HARDER" attitude.
I think about the wind
I think about the tree
I think about cold fronts
I think about pictures of deer from the year before
I think about leaves falling
I think about early mornings
I think about... everything there is to think about deer
Watching videos and starring at my past successes in the basement.
Wondering when the next giant is going to walk by my camera?
Try to picture future moments of the upcoming season in my head as a Big Buck is walking down the trail.... i try to put it in slow motion (like flash cards), concentrate on the front shoulder, and release.
I basically go insane "Not as bad as Coppertop" . but still think about big bucks all day long.
Most of all I think about what the future will hold and if i will make the "moment of truth" count.
Lastly, I think about the feeling of holding "BONE" in my hand w/ a smile on my face for the camera....
Priceless!!

I find myself longing for cool mornings, watching the sun break through the trees. I also love being in a quiet woods, where if a leaf falls 50 yards away... I know it. I also love the smell of wood burning in the stove and supper cooking in the cabin after a long day in the woods..... and I can't wait for the next one It's amazing how much tension I relieve in the fall.... just sittin' in a tree I can't wait
