Got my first tree stand new
#604011 - 09/11/08 09:22 PM

I picked up a Lone Wolf Alpha Hang-On at Bass Pro the other day. This is my first tree stand and this season will be my first time for using a tree stand. I plan on practicing setting up the climbing sticks and stand several times this weekend. Myabe by Sunday I'll be taking my bow and target with me to get some shooting in. Our season opens on Monday, however that is my wifes Birthday and she doesn't want to go hunting. Looks like Tue. evening will be my first sit.

Does anyone have any tips for a first time Lone Wolf user. Do most of you use the off set bracket or the EZ hang hook? I tried it in the backyard yesterday and the offset bracket seemed to work fine.

Ben, You will like your new stand. I have never used the offset bracket on mine. Remember your saftey harness!

So far I'm not real hip on the Lone Wolf fall arrest harness. Maybe after some more practice it will get easier to work with. Hooking the caribiner to the waist belt isn't an easy task. I'm thinking about buying an extra carabiner to leave on the waist belt. I think it would be much easier to hook carabiner to carabiner then to that belt.

I'm getting the hang of this stand quick. I can get up a tree and be ready to shoot in 10 minutes. It takes me less than 6 minutes to get ready to walk out of the woods.

Now if we could just get the cooler temps we had a week ago. We're forecasted to have highs in the 80's for the next week.

Im waiting for cooler weather too Ben. I made a trip 60 miles north of here last week and the hard maples are turning red on the river bottom, surprised me.

Ben just wondering why you decided to go with the Lone Wolf fixed position stand over the Lone Wolf Climber. I have never tried either one but have heard good things about both of them.

Steve, I was really thinking about a climber but a few others helped talk me out of it. I voted against it mainly because you are limited to which trees you can climb. Sure you can cut branches off for a climber but with the climbing sticks you can climb around them and it will take as long to cut them as it will to attach the sticks.

Maybe next year I'll buy a climber too. It would be nice to have both. Then maybe I could get my wife to come film for me.

Steve, I have a lone wolf climber and love it. For some of the locations we hunt, we can't use spikes, so its either sticks or climbers.

Light, quiet, easy to pack and easy to climb. Only thing I would make better is the seat, its a little small, or my back side is to big...
