Youth bow suggestions
#605162 - 09/28/08 11:56 AM

My oldest little Deerdragger is turning 8 in a couple of weeks and it seems to me that he's ready for a bigger/better bow. He's been shooting a kiddy bow - I have no idea what brand it is - it's a red fiberglass compound job with about 6 pounds of draw weight.

I'm looking for suggestions...I've been looking at the Darton Ranger III, as it has a tremendous amount of adjustability (both in draw length and weight). But I note that Browning, Bear and Pearson have pretty decent youth bows as well. I'd considered a Matthews Genesis, but I'd realy prefer to get him into something with a solid anchor point.

Again, I welcome whatever feedback you guys can offer. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Deerdragger- I have had good luck with the browning micro midas on with all my kids. Easy to adjust as they grow.

I bought my boy a Bear Odessy II last year. There are two models, on with a 40lb max and one with a 50lb max. I purchased the 50 lb max and at the shortest draw length (17-27" adjustable) we were able to adjust the draw weight down to 14 lbs by taking a few twists out of the string. The nice thing is it's adjustable all the way to 50lbs and a 27" draw so it will last for several years.

Best of luck in your search.

I bought my son a mattews genesis a few years back and he has moved on since, but i highly recomond it . You dont have to adjust the draw length and the weight goes between 20-30 lbs I think.

I just took a like new Alpine Micro in trade... 25-50 lbs and easy 21-28" adjustments (no bow press). It has a FO TrueGlow sight and Whisker Biscuit rest. Send me a PM.
