Big bear shot in Pepin County, WI
#605174 - 09/28/08 04:51 PM

Lip Ripper and I hung out this past weekend and we stopped at Peterson's Taxidermy to drop off the rack from the wide one. As we were pulling in, there hung the biggest bear we've ever laid our eyes on. Kirk Peterson had just got done skinning out the hide, and it was hanging on a skidsteer. The bear was shot in Pepin County, WI and weighed 615 lbs! ! This is the first bear ever taken in that county and it was harvested with a crossbow over bait. The lucky hunter claimed that he had over $300 of cookies in that bear!

Sorry - no pictures since the hide was already off.

This thing was a tank. It's rear end was as wide as a house. Congrats to the man that downed this Giant. Brad and I were guessing this guy had some help dragging the beast out as he went about 110 lbs soaking wet.

Thanks again Brad for a great wekeend!

Haven't heard a word about that monster yet either. Pics should come out eventually. I don't doubt it as they do get that big! As for the cookies I can believe that no problem. Thats only about 5 barrels worth, and baiting one site all summer long thats easy to due. Heck it can be a lot more if you put out the 10gals they let you. I have gone through jsut over 25 barrels of bait this year myself.

Can't wait to see some pics of that one though!!!!

I'll ask around for some pics. One thing that I failed to mention above was that 615 lbs. was the live weight of this bear.

The bear was weighed at The Corral Bar and Riverside Grill in Durand, WI who is an official WI Bear Registration Station. They also have pictures of this bear in the bar. Feel free to call them if you want more info.

And by the way - I was wrong on the weight. It was actually 618 lbs!
