This weekend I saw a old friend who took a big buck with is recruve on 10-30-08 just north of Attwater MN. After talking with him it got me thinking of my long bow that I got when my grandpa pass away. My quest for next season is to take a deer with that bow.
I did have someone look at it to make sure it was safe to shoot. My friend and I did shoot it some this weekend. My question is does any one know where I can get some arrows, tips an othere items I will need, or any other info would be great. The bow is 66" 56# @ 28" draw.

Stickbows are addictive. I shoot a few different longbows. They're fun to shoot, and fully capable of putting a deer on the ground. They've been doing it for thousands of years.
Problem is, you won't find too much at the big box stores that will work for your stickbow. Look up a site called Three Rivers archery... they have everything you need. There's also a guy in Minneapolis, with a small shop at 45th and Minnehaha called B&B Supply. He has a lot of arrows and arrow building stuff for traditional bows, and can probably help you out with questions.
I prefer a razor-sharp two-blade broadhead, like the Zwicky Eskimo, on a cedar shaft. Building the arrows is a big part of traditional archery, at least in my eyes. You could also go with carbon or aluminum arrows if you are so inclined.
You'll need to put in a lot of time on the range. But that's a lot of fun, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure where you are located in the metro, but there is a great guy just accross the river into wisconsin called Vance Creek Archery.
He works his career job in Minnesota, so he will meet you for pick up or drop off. He caters to people like us 
I just purchased arrows from him last winter for my old Fred Bear - Akaskan long bow.

I hope to start to make my own arrows too. May be that will be a new winter hobby. I first just want to start shooting and to get a feel for what I need and like. Does any one know were I can get a bow stringer on the west side of the metro. I have been to more then a few big box stores and can not find one. Or does any one know how to make one.

It's one of many things you won't find at the big box stores. I don't know of anywhere in the West Metro that would have one, unfortunately.
Basically, a stringer is just a long cord with pockets at the ends for the tips of your bow. Put the string on your bow, with one loop in the nock groove of the bottom limb and the other loop slid up the top limb. You put a pocket over each tip with the bow's back pointed up (the back is the side that faces the target), hold the middle of the cord down with your foot, and pull up on the handle of the bow with your left hand. As the bow bends, slide the string loop onto the nock with your right hand. Presto.

Any of these will work fine. Just make sure it's long enough for a longbow. Recurves run a lot shorter, and so do their stringers.
You can also string a bow with the step-through method, or by pushing the tip against the inside of your foot, but the stringer is the best and safest way, for both you and the bow, especially when you're starting out.

I hunt with recurves and I get all my stuff from Lamont at the footed shaft. Give him a call you won't be disapointed.

Give a call or look at Rapids Archery Club in Coon Rapids. A lot of the guys shoot traditional bows. They even have their own league.  I know there is quite a bit of info on the desk at the club house and on the bulletin board there. It's open 5 pm to 10 pm. Mon, tues. thurs. And 5 to 9 sat and sun
