Just looking for a little insight on what you guys think is a good rifle for coyote hunting.
I am looking to get into it a little bit and I am looking to mostly try and call them in.
I have been looking at .22-250, .223, or a .243
I also like the .17hmr but was wondering if others have had and good success with this caliber. any info would be appreciated,
Also do any of you use your shotgun for coyote hunting, if so do you use a turkey choke and steel shot, and what size shot?

I have a 22.250 for coyote and it's got to be the best gun you can get for that. They are flat shooting and are good for long shots. I have no problem with a 300+ yard shot. I can't say much about the .243 seeing I dont have one or know anyone who dose that uses it for coyotes. As for the .223 there are alot of guys that do use that cal. for coyotes but I have found it to not be as good as the 22.250 in long distance shots. That just my 2c on the .223. As for the .17hmr if your serious about hunting coyotes that won't cut it. You can use it and will get a coyote but you will have to call them in every close to do so. I would say that a 100 yard shot is starting to push the limits of that round. I think your best bet would be a .22-250 or the .223 eather one will do the job well. Just my 2c hope it helps you out.

I would agree with bassmaster on his thoughts 
The .223 is a great calibre, but long range accuracy is seriously affected with any type of wind.
The .243 is also a decent rifle, but damage is typically going to happen. It does however hold accuracy better than the .22-.250 in high wind situations.
But, bottom line for a coyote specific rifle, my personal opinion is the .22-.250 hands down 
My longest shot with a Ruger Mark II .22-.250 was 474 paces  I was off a little and had to shoot the coyote twice

I agree with the .22-250. But if you're looking for a coyote and deer gun, I suggest the .270. I have a Savage .270 and wouldn't trade it for the world. It is a little big for 'yotes, but very consistent.

The 6mm will also work well for them. We use shotguns hunting them with the dogs. To much thick cover for a rifle shot %95 of the time.
For loads we use Hevi-Shot turkey loads in 4 on up depending on the gun. The duck loads work good as well. They are the hardest hitting tighest holding patterns out there. Have knocked them down at 80yds with modified chokes. In the 12 ga it's normally 2's or bb. 4's come into play with the 20ga. My daughter has shot them at 60yds with 4's in her 20ga.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in .223 that works great for them. Also have used my old 22 win mag for closer ones.

My dad uses a .243 with a varmint barrel. Just flip the bi-pod down and go to work. Rock steady and deadly accurate. I like using a Weatherby .257 Mag, but I also use that for deer as well.

Boods, that 257 is a lot of gun for yotes!!! Not a cheap one to shoot either. Good gun for most BIG GAME in North America.

I like the ballistics of the 243 when shooting 70gr or smaller. Plus, a 243 with 100gr is far more effective for deer hunting than people give it credit for so that's the route I went but if I ever change my mind, the 243 will go away and a 22-250 will take it's place. AWESOME varmint round!

I have a .223 and a .204. I end up taking the 204 way more than my 223. The 204 has a better range and does less damage in my mind.

I love my Tikka .22-250, it's a very hard caliber to beat for predators in my opinion.

Personally I like auto loaders like the .223 MINI 14 and AR-15'S. Accuracy is no problem and ammo is cheap.Just point and shoot its really hard to beat,especially when there are multiples or doing drives.
