i was reading a post on another site about broad head failure and it got me thinking. I know a lot of you are probably sick of hearing about bad broad heads; not opening up, blades deploying early, etc...however, shot placement is key!!! and i was wondering how many of you would be confident with your shooting skills, accuracy to shoot a deer or any other animal with a field tip Just to let you know, i don't plan on doing it

Im very confident with my shooting skills. However, the tip on the broadhead is for penetration, the blades for cutting. Between the tallow and the bodys ability to heal, I dont believe, even with the best shot, that you'll take down a deer without the cutting power to destroy tissue and sever arteries.
Id guess that with a perfect heart shot, you'd end up tracking for at least a mile, or a day...

yep, I don't think a field tip would do enough damage to kill a deer. possibly on a heart shot, but there sure wouldn't be much of a blood trail. I'm still a big fan of the rage 2 bladers. I have yet to see a deer run out of my view without it going down

I think a deer will die as long as its a organ shot. but it will not die near you. with that said, field tips will still kill just not like a broadhead.

A good shot with a field tip would kill a deer eventually. It would be impossible to find a blood trail though and the deer would waste. Not a good idea!
