PRODUCT REVIEW: Gamehide’s Drenalin Jacket & Pants
by Rob Stenger
|
Mathews new "Lost Camo" works well in the Tree or on the ground floor. PRODUCT: Gamehide’s Drenalin Jacket & Pants
Ok, I had logged quite a bit of time wearing Gamehide’s Drenalin jacket and pants from the Mathews Collection last Fall. From the start, I had high expectations, but I’m still amazed at how well this stuff performs out in the field. Gamehide took in my opinion, one of the best bow hunting jacket & pants ever made in their Rubline II Series and added even more innovative features to an already stacked lineup when they released the Mathews DRENALIN JACKET & PANTS.
The innovative Drenalin Jacket by Gamehide The Drenalin Jacket and Pants are the quietest bow hunting clothing I have found, period. They are constructed of Gamehide’s HyperHide material that is a new bonded fleece that's soft, silent and windproof. It doesn't matter how cold the temperature is outside, this fabric stays deadly silent. Not too many windproof fabrics can claim that. With innovative features like the Freedom Sleeve, a Gamehide exclusive that does not restrict your arm movement when you raise your bow or gun. How many times have you raised your arms up with your jacket on, only to have the waist of your jacket ride up and the material around your shoulders & arms bind up? Not so with garments that have the Freedom sleeve. This is because the sleeves are attached in the arms up position. This is one of those features that you just don’t realize what you are missing until you wear a jacket or shirt that has the Freedom Sleeve. The lock down zippers, help eliminate game spooking noise. The set in pockets avoid extra bulk and give ample bowstring clearance. One of my favorite features besides the Freedom Sleeve is the zippered back slit that accommodates your safety harness strap. Having my safety harness on the inside of my jacket allows me full access to all my jacket pockets. This also keeps all the buckles and safety straps quietly hidden inside my jacket. The call loops on the chest come in handy especially during the rut when a grunt tube needs to be easily accessible for those mature cruising bucks.
The Drenalin pant features things like internal cargo pockets that won't catch when climbing up the tree or stalking through the woods. I like the knee high leg zippers makes it a breeze to pull on over boots. The snap cuffs at the pant leg bottoms help stop drafts and help keep human scent contained on the inside of the pants. I also like the button and zipper at the waist with belt loops similar to wearing jeans or pants. The waterproof seat is a brilliant idea that assures comfort from a wet tree stand seat that we often face in the Fall.
The innovative Drenalin Pant by Gamehide Then for all the scent conscious hunters out three, the Drenalin lineup is lined with Scent-Lok, for the ultimate in scent control. The Mathews exclusive “Lost” Camo pattern is a great pattern for the hardwoods around here in the Midwest from October well into December when the big boys are still on their feet. The Drenalin jacket and pants by Gamehide is state of the art hunting wear that is soft, deadly silent, windproof, and add in the Scent-Lok, it truly is a bow hunters dream. I often get asked why I wear Gamehide? I wear it because of all the attention to the little details and innovations that goes into designing their clothing. All these little details make a big difference and help me be more successful in the field. These garments are built by Hunters, for Hunters. Another reason is they stand behind their products for satisfaction guaranteed. Gamehide is what I wear and depend on day in, day out when I’m in the field. I encounter some extreme temps and weather conditions each hunting season. My time in the field is short enough and I can’t let weather dictate the days or times I spend in the field. My Gamehide clothing has yet to let me down or force me out of the stand or field because I'm too cold or wet. A few years ago in ND it was 10 to 22 below zero straight temps the whole day and my GAMEHIDE was up to the task and kept me out in the field, while others were back at camp trying to get warm!

With the leaves already starting to turn and the temps finally looking to get a bit cooler. IMO this is the best of the best when it comes to Bow Hunting Clothing for the days of October and November. As Fall settles in, this will be what I'm wearing as soon as the temperatures let me.

Rob, what’s your opinion on the sizes when getting setup, sometimes when getting outerwear a person ends up with a x-large jacket and large pants versus Large /large
Can you touch on the subject on how the sizes compare for the folks that have to rely on ordering their clothing.

Great question Jeff.
Gamehide seems to always have more of a generous cut on their clothing, especially their outerwear. I layer pretty good underneath my Drenlain Jacket and Pants in the late November and December to stay warm when those temps drop in the teens and upper single digits. However, I still wear the same size and don't have to "up size" to accommodate additional clothes underneath.
When it really gets cold and drops below the upper single digits I do carry a pair of either the SWITCH BACK BIBS or CHAMELEON BIBS into the tree with me and put them on once I arrive at the tree and cool down from the walk in. Besides the obvious stuff of warm feet and head, these bibs teamed up with a Gamehide neck gaiter are my best defense against the cold and reason I can sit in below zero weather for hours. I like the bibs because they keep your “Body Core” warm but do not restrict your arm movement for time.

Gamehide is coming out with a new Mathews Monster Jacket and Pants. This is insulated with state of the art innovative insulation. I believe it is pretty much the same design, minus the Scent-Lok as the Drenalin Line up. I have not seen it yet, but can't wait to check it out. More details to come as soon as I have them.
