Bailey's 1st Deer
#698781 - 11/08/11 05:25 PM

Bailey Braatz, Son of Rodney and Stacy Braatz of Cannon Falls shot this nice Doe during the youth Gun season Congratulations it's great to see parents getting their children involved in the outdoors
Congratulations Bailey on a great hunt
the story as told by Bailey.

"The morning of Saturday October 22nd, my dad and I left our house around 6:00 AM, it was still dark out! We got to our deer stand in Welch shortly after. I was at a birthday party late the night before so I was a little tired, so I decided to close my eyes for awhile and let my dad watch for any action. I woke up shortly after 7 because I was cold! I grabbed my i-pod and starting playing it, when my dad said “there’s a deer”! I have to say I thought he was kidding, but grabbed the gun anyways and looked up and there were two of them! One must have been the mom deer and the other was her baby! My intention was to shoot the first deer, but I forgot to take the safety off of the gun and she ran into the woods! I took the safety off and shot the 2nd deer! My heart was pounding, then I saw the deer go down, “I shot it dad, I shot it”!!!!!! I have never been so excited in my life!"

It was a small deer, but it was my first and I was really excited to have shot something! My dad stepped it off and said it was a great shot at about 90 yards!

After we gutted and loaded the deer up in the trailer, we headed to McDonalds for a victory breakfast!

Congrats bailey! Sounds kinda like my first deer. Forgot about the whole leading thing on a running deer. Aimed at momma and hit the smaller one trailing behind.....and I know you're not the only one to forget about the saftey
